About:

Canadian by root, my family moved to America to start a fresh life in 1988. Two years later, I was born in California. While that was a blessing to my parents, they had an extra surprise that accompanied my birth - my deafness. I was - and still am lucky - to have parents who believed in equal treatment and opportunity in education. Born and raised in a hearing community, I was mainstreamed in public schools. With that put aside, I had the cliche role of an overachiever. From my position of full-time staff pitcher ace for competitive and high school softball to President of the Speech and Debate team, Treasurer of the Animal Friends of Tokay club, volunteer as a teacher-aide in the classroom for deaf and hard of hearing preschoolers and kindergarteners, and staff writer for both the high school newspaper and yearbook, I certainly had no shortage of experience! Somehow in the midst of all this insane activity, I still managed to keep up my love and passion - writing. After graduating from high school in 2008, I moved down south for college and finally joined the deaf culture. Now I love feeling that I belong in both the deaf and hearing worlds. :) I currently major in English with a concentration of Creative Writing. I hope to someday write successful novels that are to last for generations to come. Writing is my refuge, my escape. It is a beautiful and powerful way as an art of form for us to express ourselves as unique individuals to each other and to society. Through writing and reading, I get to interact with people from all walks of life, which I very much so enjoy. It's truly a honor to learn about all kinds of unique cultures, beliefs, religions, opinions, perspectives - it really is an eye-opening experience. I get to broaden my horizon of knowledge and open-mindedness. Life wouldn't be so interesting of a diamond without such unlimited cuts of perspective on it! (:
